Letting Up
after the flood
I want to kiss the billowing mist
weighing down these bridges.
Heavy water smacks the highway,
sky weeping like nobody’s business.
My heart floods—
covering roads into rivers.
Then
it lets up
with a gentle pat.
Allowing green to breathe deeply,
puffing up, showing off—
between it,
the baby faces of Dame’s rocket
coyly catch me in their arms—
rock me into a sleep
deeper than death.
